The Ultimate Orlando Theme Park Trip

Earlier this month I spent a week in Orlando. We spent most of the trip at theme parks from open to close. There was one day at Universal Studios and two days of Disney World. It was a great break from an upstate winter, but I did come back to 6 inches of snow. Read on to find out more below!

My trip started with quite the interesting plane ride. I was supposed to fly out of Albany to Orlando on Frontier. About 10 minutes before we were supposed to land, the pilot got on and told us that we were in a holding pattern because there was a thunder storm and we couldn’t land yet. After about half an hour of flying around in circles (talk about motion sick) the pilot got on and told us we needed to land in Tampa instead. Meanwhile my parents were already waiting at the Orlando airport to pick me up. We finally got in two hours later than originally planned and we didn’t get back to our Air bnb until 1am! Luckily I had a window seat and the woman next to me had purchased the tickets for the other two seat in the row.

What We Did & What We Ate

Hollywood Studios

We started out our thee day stretch of theme parks at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. This was where I learned to NEVER get Starbucks at the parks.

The main attraction for the day was Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. I stopped for some blue milk and had some laughs with the storm troopers. While I’ve only seen the movies once, Disney does such a great job at making it feel like you’re really there experiencing the movies.

Our second stop on day one was to Epcot. The flower and garden festival had just started and all the landscaping was so beautiful. Not too long after arriving there was so much rain that not even our ponchos and umbrellas could save us, so the rest of the day was pretty damp and I’m sure it would have been much more enjoyable if we stayed dry. That being said it did not distract from all the delicious food. I somehow did not get a photo of any of the yummy food we had but I highly recommend the Lavender Honey Mustard-marinated Chicken Flatbread at the Honey Bee-stro and the House-made Cheese Crab Wontons at Lotus House in China.

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal

Day 2 was at Universal and in all honesty, we only went to Universal for Harry Potter world but it was SO worth it! Not having to worry about the other rides meant we had more time to explore and try and master all the spell that you can cast with your wand from Ollivander’s while sipping on some frozen butter beer. My favorite thing about the Universal parks is that they have single rider lines and since my parents are big on thrill rides, I went on as a single rider and hardly had a wait on all the big rides! I think my favorite would have to be Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey in the Hogwarts Castle.

Magic Kingdom

We wrapped up the trip with a day at Magic Kingdom. I am a little upset because all I wanted to try this trip was the Creamy Bacon Macaroni & Cheese Tots and I didn’t get to because of the rain, so if someone can ship me some of something that would be great.

We stopped for some popcorn at Main Street Confectionary and the sweetest woman made us the best 4-topping popcorn “on Mickey”. She told us it was because we were the first ones who asked her if we could film the process before we took out our phones.

We also spent some time watching some glassblowing in the Crystal Arts. If I didn’t have to travel home by plane I totally would’ve picked up one of the handmade ornaments for my Christmas tree.

All in all it really was a magical trip and I’m already missing the Orlando weather. I can’t wait until the next time that I get to go back. What are some of your can’t miss things if you’ve ever been to Disney?
